چکیده
to differentiation of the spermatozoon to the mature motile condition. During differentiation, striking variations occur not only in cell shape but also in the ionic composition of the developing spermatozoa and their surrounding media, specifically in the ratio of sodium to potassium (Cragle, Salisbury & Muntz, 1958). The membrane potential (Em) of cells isolated from mouse testis is dependent on both sodium and potassium concentration gradients (McGrady, 1979). Cuthbert & Wong (1975) postulated a relatively high permeability ratio of sodium to potassium (PNa/PK) based on their study of membrane potential in rat seminiferous tubules. Wong (1976) studied uptake of 22Na into rat seminiferous tubules and found that entry of sodium occurs rapidly and by simple diffusion. Chueng, Hwang & Wong (1976, 1978) showed a significant contribution of sodium as well as potassium to membrane potential of rat epididymal epithelial cells. Zimmerman et al (1979) studied the uptake of Na+ and K+ in boar epididymal spermatozoa and suggested that caput cells

Curcumin Inhibits The Adverse Effects of Sodium Arsenite in Mouse Epididymal Sperm
Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of curcumin on epididymal sperm parameters in adult male Navel Medical Research Institute (NMRI) mice exposed to sodium arsenite. MaterialsAndMethods In this experimental study, we divided the animals into four groups: control, sodium arsenite (5 mg/kg), curcumin (100 mg/kg) and curcumin+sodium arsenite. Exposures were performed by ...
متن کاملRUBIDIUM AND CESIUM FLUXES IN MUSCLE AS l~ELATED TO T H E MEMBRANE POTENTIAL* BY RAYMOND A. SJODIN
The reduction of membrane potential in frog sartor/us muscle produced by rubidium and cesium ions has been studied over a wide concentration range and compared with depolarization occasioned by potassium ions. The constant field theory of passive flux has been used to predict the potential changes observed. The potential data suggest certain permeability coe~eient ratios and these are compared ...

متن کاملThe Permeability of the Human Erythrocyte to Sodium and Potassium
Measurements have been made on the permeability of the human erythrocyte to Na and K in vitro, using radioactive tracers to observe the system in the steady state. The average inward K flux is 1.67 m.eq./liter cells hour, and the apparent activation energy is 12,300 +/- 1300 calories/mol. The inward K flux is independent of the external K concentration in the range of concentrations studied (4 ...
متن کاملChanges in Motility Parameters of Mouse Spermatozoa in Response to Different Doses of Progesterone during Course of Hyperactivation
The aim of this study was to evaluate changes that occur in motility parameters of progesterone treated mouse spermatozoa during course of hyperactivation. Mouse spermatozoa treated with different doses of progesterone were videotaped after 10 min and 90 min of incubation. For each sperm, one second of movement of the head-midpiece junction was traced from the videotape and for each tracing sev...
